POLICY MESSAGE 06-06 5 April 2006

SUBJECT: Change to the Maximum Age Criteria

1. REFERENCES:

A. AR 601-280, The Army Retention Program

B. MILPER Message 06-104, Army Retention Program Update

2. Effective immediately the maximum age criteria for a Soldier is changed from 55 to 62. Career Counselors are responsible to disseminate this change throughout their command.

3. Change the following paragraphs in AR 601-280:

AR 601-280, Paragraph 3-8, change to read:

a. Age (Non-Waivable).
(1) A soldier must be 18 years of age or older on the date of reenlistment and not more than 62 years of age at the new ETS. Soldiers who will have completed 20 or more years of active Federal service will not be reenlisted or extended for any period that will expire after the last day of the month in which the Soldier reaches age 62.

(2) Soldiers may serve in the Regular Army up to their retention control point or age 62, whichever occurs first.

AR 601-280, Paragraph 3-15b, change to read:

b. Periods of Retention: CSMs selected under this authority may remain on active duty up to 35 years total active Federal service or age 62, whichever occurs first. Reenlistment periods authorized in paragraph 3-12 apply.
